Doodhpathri, an emerging tourist destination in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, is gaining popularity and can get crowded during the day. Situated at an altitude of 8,957 feet, it is approximately 42 km from Srinagaar

Origin of the Name

The name Doodhpathri translates to Valley of Milk in Kashmiri. According to folklore, Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (Nund Rishi), a revered saint of Kashmir, once struck the ground with his stick in search of water for ablution. Instead of water, milk gushed out, later transforming into a stream that still appears milky from a distance.

Scenic Beauty

Doodhpathri is a breathtaking meadow with lush green grass that resembles a velvet carpet. A gushing river winds through the valley, adding to its charm and serenity. Despite its natural allure, Doodhpathri has only recently been recognized as a tourist spot, making it less crowded compared to other destinations in Kashmir. However, it is immensely popular among locals who enjoy day trips here.

Infrastructure & Accessibility

The road from Khansahib in Budgam to Doodhpathri is in poor condition. The area lacks a full-fledged market or hotels, making it a day-trip destination. While tea and snacks are available at small local stalls, visitors must carry their own meals. The government is working on improving accessibility, and once completed, Doodhpathri is expected to become one of the top three tourist spots in Kashmir.
