Origin of the Name

The name Doodhpathri translates to Valley of Milk in Kashmiri. According to folklore, Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (Nund Rishi), a revered saint of Kashmir, once struck the ground with his stick in search of water for ablution. Instead of water, milk gushed out, later transforming into a stream that still appears milky from a distance.

The government is working on improving accessibility, and once completed, Doodhpathri is expected to become one of the top three tourist spots in Kashmir.

• The total journey takes about 2-3 hours.
